Happy Australia Day

Greetings to one and all, on this, my 53rd year in this wonderful country. My parents took a huge decision, having never been here and, solely on the advice of others, emigrated to Australia – along with my brother, sister and myself – arriving on the SS Iberia into Sydney Harbour at 6am in the morning of 26 January 1970. 200 years after Captain Cook and 182 after Phillip. And 53 years ago today. Read more here

Australia was, and is, most definitely worth a special trip!

Worth a Detour is all about great food experiences.

Today a meal is more than just the food – it is the total experience. Our aim is to find great places to visit, with food that we like, and great food and wine experiences that you can share with your companions**.

We are not critics. We simply highlight and recommend places worth visiting. We were tired of being served mediocre food and service with an attitude – so we set out to find those great little places that serve good food, with friendly service and fabulous atmosphere.

If a venue is on our site – it is worth seeking out – it is Worth a Detour.

Worth a Detour is a dynamic work-in-progress. We have many places yet to explore. So please join with us and share the detours…

**Note: **

The word Companion comes from the latin “com” and “panis” – meaning “with bread”. Someone with whom you share bread. Someone with whom you travel, dine and spend time with. A true friend.

What's new?

Due to COVID, the floods and other distractions, we have not been very active. But we are now back seeking those special places and hope to cover more of Australia in the comings months.

Take a look at my blog page for some comments on hospitality…
